Seven Branch Menorah (Candelabra)

The 7 branch menorah is the original biblical menorah that stood in the mishkan (the temporary temple the people of Israel traveled with in the desert) and both of the people of Israel’s temples in Jerusalem. It was lit every day by the High Priest (Kohen Gadol) with olive oil. The making of the Menorah is described in great detail in the bible – it is famous for being made of one piece of solid gold. It was decorated with unique ornaments detailed in the bible.

Thus it is different from the 9 branch menorahs that we light today on Hannuka that symbolize the eight days of the reanointing the temple in the time of the Macabees.

Historically, the biblical menorah appears on all manner of archeological artifacts from Israel such as coins, houses, synagogues, pottery and more. It has therefore become a symbol of the Jewish nation as a whole and is featured today on the official symbol of the State of Israel, along with olive branches on either side. Inspiration for our creations

The artworks come from stories that parents told their children in the villages of Easter Europe are often represented in our products. Stories often included wolves and snow – always lots of snow – and long journeys from one town to another through snow only arriving after encountering wolves. Upon arrival, the characters would be warmly welcomed by representative of the new town and given something warm to eat. Many paintings and wall hangings are dark with flashes of snow of the white teeth of a snarling wolf.

The craftsmen from whom we draw our creations are masters in their professions. They have conducted deep studies into the symbolism, mysticism and history of the people to ply their trade. Beautiful brass etchings of significant places such as Rachel’s Tomb, the Old City of Jerusalem and scenes from history display the skill of these craftsmen and craftswomen. Working in brass takes a particular skill. Metal is an ancient medium for creation but it is very unforgiving. Even small blemishes can be detected so our craftsmen need to ensure that each creation is near perfect. The recreation of Solomon’s Temple which stood on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is an exquisite example of such perfection. The three areas of the Temple are clearly shown, one for Israelites, one for Leviim and one for Kohanim. The craftsmen undertook extensive research into the creation of the piece to ensure its accuracy so that it can be appreciated as an item of beauty as well as an instrument of learning. It can be purchased with a blessing of the house in English or Hebrew. It comes framed but can also be re-framed to meet your particular tastes.

Hanging a mezuzah is an active commandment featured in the passage of the Shema in Deuteronomy. Many later Jewish texts such as the Talmud and Kabbalah describe its significance as a protector of the home and the dweller. The scroll, written by a kosher scribe upon parchment, contains the first two passages of Shema.

How to put up your new mezuzah:

Placement: The right side of the doorway upon coming in, in the top third of the doorpost. Some fix the mezuzah on their doorway diagonally, so that the top is closer to the inside.

The blessing: “ברוך אתה ה’ אלוהינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצוותיו וציוונו לקבוע מזוזה“.

Transliterated: “Baruch ata ado- nai Elo – haynu melech haolam asher kidishanu bemitzvotav vetzivanu likvoa mezuzah”

Translation: Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who sanctified us with his mitzvot, and commanded us to affix a mezuzah.

After the recitation of the blessing, attach the mezuzah.

A biblical source can be found in Proverbs 23:6 which reads ו אַל-תִּלְחַם--אֶת-לֶחֶם, רַע עָיִן; וְאַל-תִּתְאָו, לְמַטְעַמֹּתָיו. 6 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties; ז כִּי, כְּמוֹ שָׁעַר בְּנַפְשׁוֹ-- כֶּן-הוּא: אֱכוֹל וּשְׁתֵה, יֹאמַר לָךְ; וְלִבּוֹ, בַּל-עִמָּךְ. 7 For as one that hath reckoned within himself, so is he: {N} 'Eat and drink', saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. So as you can see it's sources can be dated as far back as to King Solomon.
